Fitting In

What a tiring week! Cooking, eating, travelling, watching tv, more eating.... All just to usher in the CNY.

We went for Malay style ikan bakar for lunch on Monday at TTDI. Andy said a Malay couple were staring at us. I was busy tucking in, cannot multi task, food + food is ok, food + others is a lost case. Why they were staring at us, I have no idea. Minus the mata sepet, Andy can easily pass off as a Malay.

Reminded me of the time when we were in a Houston restaurant. That time we were stared at by some white fellas. Rednecks... Oh, give us a break! There are 1B plus of us in the world, thought people would get kinda used to looking at us by now???

We will probably never fit in no matter where we are. But I have never thought differently... I am Malaysian first, Chinese second.

Happy As Happy Can Be

Feels weird. I feel happy as happy can be... I catch myself smiling every now and then. I honestly cannot remember a happier time in the past 3.5 yrs, let alone 7 yrs. Me smiling? Frightening thought right? haha... Most of the time I walk around with a thunderstorm cloud over my head, with lightning bolts flashing.

I am effectively jobless, with no opportunity on the horizon (nothing that I would want to do). Yet I am going on everyday like a happy little bird flitting around enjoying the sun and the flowers. Weird. Maybe I should leave? I doubt I would be happy if someone offered me a band promo on a silver platter right now.

I wish I could see my future. Then I can just execute per plan. Wishful thingking. I guess life is to be discovered, not executed upon...

New Year Wish

There are many things in life you don't need, very few that we truly cannot live without. The less you need, the better. Fewer strings attached, less emotion involved, less stress, less of everything bad...

My wish for the new year - to move on. To forget the past, to leave the pain and tears behind. The scars will fade with time. What remains - defining moments and the friendships that you discovered in your darkest hour...

Hotel Review : Gardens Hotel & Residences

We took a break during the Christmas weekend. As usual, hubby refused to spill the beans on where we were going. 1 hour before we left the house, he handed me the room confirmation printout and told me to hold on tight to it. Surprise, surprise! "Planning" is my current calling (read: job), you can imagine how annoyed I was till that moment...

Within an hour we reached Mid Valley from Seremban. Being good citizens (*cough* no extra cash to handout for summons) . Lo and behold, the roads leading into the mall's parking were jamned. Business as usual.

"Lined up" to check in. Only one person at the reservation desk, presumably lunch break for the other. Guy in front of us loaded to the max with a wad of cash. We, our humble plastic in hand. Oh well.

18th floor. Is it near the lift? No. So we took the lift up. Very Chinese, lift buttons skipped numbers 14 and 28. Oh, room is next to the lift! Misleading the guests. One room apartment type, one tv in the bedroom, another in the living room. Room still new-ish and in good condition.

Table top. Kitchen equipped to kill, with whole array of knifes. Not to be outdone, the other permanent residents of the room, a 5 ft fridge, oven, microwave, pan, cutlery etc etc. Guests with families in tow would appreciate these comforts.

Getting our priorities right. Sharon prevented from messing up the room while hubby snapped pictures of the still clean room. Sat gingerly on the sofa while doing best to turn on the LCD tv. Sony, not Samsung. 40"? No idea. On both sides, mini sound system, plus a DVD player. They had the usual fare of cable channels. Outside was a smallish balcony with two chairs. View was of the huge Klang river longkang (I think). So much for thoughts of 'santai-ing' there.

Stop. No WIFI, only plug ins, and that for another RM30. How to die?

Bedroom was pretty standard. King size bed, creaky though. Or maybe I just need to loose weight. Hmm.. Food for thought! Desk on the left hand side of the room. Uninspiring desk. A lot of wood in the room. Solid wood.. solid furniture... solid doors... you can almost smell it.

Toilet was so-so. Ok, I admit, I'm spoilt. Decent 5 star toilet, separate stall for shower and bathtub and another stall for toxin removal. Toilet came with the usual accessories - toothbrush, sewing kit, shaving kit, scales etc.

Around 5pm, went to the Executive Lounge for cocktails. They say first impressions last. Place was overrun with kids. I have never in the life of me seen kids, and for that matter, that many, in a club lounge! Overcrowded, noisy and understaffed. What happened to exclusivity, I wonder. Left after downing coke, fruit juices an finger food.

My idea to try out the oven. Off we went to the mall next door. Ended up with marinated whole chicken leg, four sticks of kebab, mashed potatoes, fries and soft drinks. Oh, and aluminium foil plus olive oil. Heated up oven, lined the tray with the aluminium foil, and placed the chicken leg in. Half way through, inducted the kebabs and fries as well. Microwaved the mashed potatoes and voila. Dinner is served.

Couldn't for the life of me figure out how was it the knife could "stand" and not fall on either side. It had a flat handle. Sigh... No matches, no candle light. Seems the hotel is one big smoke free zone. Redemption of sorts for the hotel owners.

Bought tickets for Sherlock Holmes at the Gardens GSC cinema. Midnight movie. Movie kept me busy, characters talked too much, me busy multi tasking, wathcing and reading the subtitles. Yes, I read subtitles. No problems moving around the mall-cinema-hotel at that ungodly hour. Main entrance to Gardens Hotel open 24 hours a day.

Breakfast is served in the other building, Gardens Hotel. Human queue... Maybe it's the holidays? We waited for about 25 mins. Annoyed, as usual. Spread was ok, nothing to shout about. Food eventually got replenished. Again you get the feeling they're understaffed.

The hotel location is good. Plenty of shopping, food and entertainment outlets in the mall next door. If you are looking to spending time in the mall, this hotel would be a good choice. Less suitable for people wanting to get away from the crowd. I would say 4.5 - 5 star...

There's always a first time...

My first blog.... What took me so long? No idea, really.

Rainy day. Contemplating dinner. To sin or not to sin, that is the question. steamboat
western (sizzling hotplate?)
laksa
what else??

Thinking of a nice suit I saw this afternoon in the mall, crumpled linen + chinese collar. Yes, me and suits, the love affair continues.... btw, I wfh 95% of the time? Smell naggings coming my way. Oh well.

Ok, so I've made up my mind to get that suit next week (assuming I can fit!), I guess we'll be good and eat healthy for the next few days.... wow, requires serious self control...

Steamboat here we come...... Starbucks can wait till Monday, hehe...
